The city

Placed on a panoramic spur, which dominates a bend of the Esino River, and well known by the oenologists and gourmets for the Verdicchio wine, Matelica is rich in monuments and museums which testify its ancient origin. Those who visit the exhibition, after an archaeological itinerary through the ancient Picene remains discovered in the city, can admire the vestiges dating back to the following centuries, and cover an architectural itinerary which starts from the town square and continues through the streets, the noble palaces in the old town centre and the religious buildings. Interesting are the naturalistic tours through the charming countryside, where tourists, following an enogastronomic tour, let themselves be enticed by the delicious flavours which the city and its territory offer them. Before leaving the city, we suggest visitors to listen to the journal on Matelica, read by the Italian actor, Cesare Bocci, who has recently described with his voice all the cities in Macerata´s Province.

Goodbye to Matelica.
